Katavi, the third largest National Park in Tanzania, cover the area of 4500 sq km. It is located about 40 km southeast of Mpanda town, in southwesternTanzania, East of Lake Tanganyika and 340 km from Kigoma town by road.
How to get to Katavi;
Charter, or schedule a flight from Dar, the Selous Game Reserve, Ruaha, Mikumi, Mahale, Arusha or Zanzibar. By road from Dar to Mbeya , Sumbawanga and then Katavi.The road from Kigoma to Katavi is good and takes 5 hours. Also you can get to Katavi from Ikola on the eastern side of Lake Tanganyika.
What to do;
The main attraction in Katavi is the beauty at lake Katavi and the Ilyandi sandridge. Lake Katavi, the Kataukas Kakonje Plain, and the Katuma valley are geological wonders. There are unique aggregations of hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, impalas, elephants, leopards, lions, topis, zebras, giraffes and other plains animals, as well as a plethora of waterfowl in and around the lake.
